November 23, 2011  "New DNS settings"
Some of my customers are using my DNS server settings.  I installed these DNS settings on your computers to speed up your internet surffing.  But I am retiring my DNS server.
Over the next few days I will be disconnecting my DNS server then reconnecting it.  As I do this some customers will call with internet connections problems.  I can reset your DNS settings via remote after you call.  Then you will not have the problems anymore.
P.S.  DNS servers resolve your url's to IP address's.  If your not sure what this means, your not alone.  I can explain when you call me.  Thanks, Brian the Geek...

November 23, 2011  "Have you seen this email?"
If you have then just delete it.  It's tring to spread a virus.

The emall will have a subject something like:  "
Need your help!" or "Help! I'm in trouble!"

I was at a party, got drunk, couldn't drive the car, somebody gave me a lift on my car, and crossed on the red light many times, I've just got the pictures, maybe you know him?
Here is the photo <-- If you view this photo then you will get infected with a virus

I need to find him urgently!
Thank you
Lysander

October 1, 2011 "Watch What You Type?"
A lot of people use Facebook, Twitter and other Social networks to express their feelings.
Recently my oldest daughter typed a post on Facebook.  My brother viewed then commented on the post.  In turn, my daughter replied that she learned that type of action from home.  After I read this post, I was upset.  Now she removed the offending post.  But does she know how many people viewed it?  Will she lose a job after someone she does not know reads a Google screen shot?
What if I Tweeted my thoughts about what I think of the people in the White house, would I have a bunch of men in black suits show up at my door?  Of course I would.  How many customers did I just lose or what business will I never see from that post about my political view?  Black suits at my door are a visible result of my electronic written words.  Think about what you don’t see or hear from people you never knew who read your post?  Did you just lose that new job, did you just end a friendship or upset that nice neighbor.
Please think before you type.  Read about some of the experiences of others:  Lost a Dream home , How to lose a Job , Insult your client , or my favorite Congressman resigns amid Craigslist scandal and Lawyers Look Up Jury Candidates On Facebook

August 14, 2011 "Slowing down Fake Alert Spyware?"

I have tested everyone one of the major Antivirus software products on the market.  None stop new versions of the "Fake alert or Scareware" virus's.  So I will look at this problem a different way.  Since most of these infections come from hacked advertisements, I was thinking that if I can stop the advertisement links before they load on to your computer, this should put a damper on some of the infections.  I remember programs back in the day of dial-up which would stop advertisements from loading which would speed up the rest of the loading of the web page.   Well, here is a program that's free and piggy backs on the browser Firefox; Adblock Plus.  As I have been testing, I have noticed more then 95% decrease in the advertisements on MSN.com, Yahoo.com, Facebook.com and eBay.com.  Plus, if you find an ad or link you want removed you can train Adblock Plus to clean up the web page even more.  You must have Firefox installed first then add Adblock Plus via "Tools then Add-ons".   Take a look and let me know what you think, plus if you have any problems, just call.  P.S. Open Internet Explorer to see the difference.  Thanks Brian.

Update April 17, April 14, 2011, July 19, 2001 "Fake Aleart = Scareware"
If your computer has a pop up that looks the picture to the right then you need to call FixedByAGeek.com -->
I came across this article in USAtoday "Mass 'scareware' attack hits 1.5M websites, still spreading".  Just some lite reading.
Here is another article from Microsoft.com  "www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/antivirus-rogue.aspx"

April 16, 2011  Some information that effects us all like the value of the dollar and oil Sorry, nothing about computers here.

March 27, 2011 "Hacked Passwords for Hotmail or MSN or Yahoo email"
Everything about Hacking the passwords for Hotmail or MSN or Yahoo or Aol and the fix are very easy.  In the day of trying to remember 100 passwords for work for home and personal uses everyone is guilty of using very very simple passwords to remember.  But using simple passwords in your web based email accounts is NOT recommended.  The bad guys can sit in there mother's basement in there underwear and just guess your simple password or write a simple program to us the dictonary to guess your passwords.  Once they have access to your account, they spam the hell out of your contacts with viruses.  Your friends or worse your business relations open your email beliveing you sent it and now they are infected.   Luckily, I can show you how to cure this hack.  In three words "Change your Password".  But change it to a more complicated password.
You can use your favorite passwords but add dates or punctuation like this:
Bad:-----------Good:
fluffy-----------Fluffy2011?
Badgirl---------"BADGIRL2010"pink
Spike-----------2011Spike2

You get the idea, use your password the add stuff to them.  I like using dates cause you can change them each year and still remember them.

March 14, 2011 "Fake Email from FED-EX"
As I read my email I have noticed a sizeable increase in Fake email that look like they come from FED-EX.   Do NOT click the email addachment at all.  FED-EX will not email you unless you sign up for email alearts. 99.9% are fake.  The email is programmed to download a Virus.  Most of the time if you look at the "Sending email" address is not from FED-EX but from Gmail or Hotmail or such.  If you have a question, just call so we can remote in.

Feb. 12, 2011 More "Fake Alert" virus's
With a new rash of "Fake Alert" virus's hitting websites. Here is a snap shot of how a "Fake Alert" can start infecting your computer. If you see something like this PopUp on your computer "STOP" and then do nothing. Do NOT click the image at all, NOT the X or the OK or anywhere on the popup. I would hold down the power button til the computer shuts off. Then you can reboot and DO NOT revisit the infected website for at least two days.

Feb. 12, 2011 Microsoft SE antivirus Updates
Go for it.  If your Microsoft SE antivirus turns Amber and/or asks you to "Update", you can.  Just click on "Update".  You may be asked to reboot your computer, you can.  After the reboot you may need to "Update" once more.  Updating the first time will update the program then updating the second time will update the virus tables.
